iQOO, which started off as Vivo’s spin-off brand, has unveiled its latest high-end smartphones: iQOO 8 and iQOO 8 Pro. Both these devices are powered by top-of-the-line processors from Qualcomm and feature high refresh rate OLED screens, triple-camera setups at the rear, and extremely fast battery charging speeds. For biometrics, the iQOO 8 series phones use ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanners. They are run Android 11-based OriginOS software.
iQOO 8 Specifications
The iQOO 8 sports a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (2,376 × 1,080 pixels), a 120Hz refresh rate, and support for HDR10+ playback. At the core of the phone lies the Snapdragon 888 chipset. This 5nm chip packs in the Adreno 660 GPU for gaming. The handset comes in 8GB and 12GB RAM variants. Depending on the model, you will get 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage.
On the photography front, iQOO 8 offers a 48MP main snapper with “Gimbal” (OIS) five-axis stabilisation for smooth panning videos and brighter shots in low-light conditions. There’s a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 13MP portrait camera (2x optical zoom). The cameras can record 4K 60fps videos. For selfies, you get a 16MP front-facing camera that sits inside a punch-hole-shaped display cutout.
The phone houses stereo speakers but seems to lack a 3.5mm headphone jack. Other features include 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GPS, and USB Type-C connector. The handset holds a 4,350mAh battery with a whopping 120W fast charging support via the bundled charger.
iQOO 8 Pro Specifications
The iQOO 8 Pro comes with a slightly larger, 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a QHD+ resolution (3,200 x 1,440 pixels). This panel is tuned for a 120Hz refresh rate and supports HDR10+. The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 888+ chipset that was unveiled a few weeks ago. The 8GB RAM variant comes with 256GB internal storage. The 12GB model lets you choose between 256GB and 512GB storage.
The iQOO 8 Pro comes with a triple-camera setup, similar to the iQOO 8. However, this phone has better camera sensors, including a 50MP primary camera with “Gimbal” OIS, a 48MP ultrawide camera (114-degree FoV), and a 16MP portrait camera with 2.5x optical zoom. Moving around the front, a 16MP camera takes care of selfies.
Much like the regular model, the Pro version lacks a 3.5 headphone jack. It relies on the USB Type-C port, for audio out. The phone covers essential connectivity features such as 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and GPS. It comes with a slightly larger, 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging. Additionally, it is compatible with 50W Qi wireless (inductive) charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.
