According to a new report, MG Motors India may import the Wuling’s Air EV to India as their budget EV offering and will price it aggressively. This EV could be the Wuling’s Air EV, code-named E230, which was just released in Indonesia. The vehicle was designed for low-cost markets and will be used as a tiny commuter in urban areas.
MG will make extensive modifications to the car to suit Indian conditions, particularly in areas such as battery pack thermal management and air conditioning. The car is expected to be priced aggressively in India, at roughly ₹10 lakh, and would be equipped with the latest technology and gadgets to make it a good value for money offer. The new budget MG EV is slated to debut in India in the middle of 2023.

MG Motors is preparing to launch a low-cost electric vehicle in the country as buyer’s interest in electric vehicles is increasing. The company plans to import Wuling’s Air EV from their sibling company. The Air EV is built on Wuling’s Global Small Electric Vehicles (GSEV) platform, which can accommodate a variety of body shapes and has been developed for use in a variety of markets.
The Air EV has a new design that includes a full-width chrome light bar, integrated door handles, a split LED headlight system, and a pair of distinctive creases running the length of the vehicle. Given the finicky nature of Indian purchasers, the Air EV’s two-door configuration may be replaced with a four-door configuration. The car’s overall length is roughly 2.9m, and MG plans to market it as an urban commuter.
The car will have a 20-25kWh battery pack and a driving range of up to 150 kilometers. The Air EV has the potential to unlock the Indian market for micro electric vehicles, something that other Asian markets have been doing for a few years. To keep prices down, MG intends to manufacture electric vehicles locally by procuring battery packs and other necessary components. Before a formal launch, we may get a look at this EV at the Auto Expo next year.
