Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), which provides metro service on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar route in the city, inaugurated an “e-ticket on WhatsApp” feature on Thursday in an effort to simplify the ticketing procedure. This idea is an extension of their present “Paper QR Ticket” offered at their ticket desks. This also makes Mumbai Metro One the world’s first MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) to provide e-tickets over WhatsApp.
Passengers will need to send the message ‘Hi’ to 9670008889 on WhatsApp to take advantage of this service. Following that, the process of selecting a ticket and paying for it will begin, all within the chat window. Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar also happens to be Mumbai’s first metro line, which opened back in 2014. Apart from that, MMOPL claims to have implemented several technical advances for its 2,60,000 daily riders, such as bank combo cards, mobile QR tickets, and loyalty programmes.

The service had previously been limited to 40 million customers, but the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has recently expanded the limit. WhatsApp has 500 million active users in the country, and the company still has a long way to go to reach the remaining 400 million UPI users.
