WhatsApp has always been popular among its users for the features it offers, but many have been clamouring for a native iPad app. Well, there might be good news on its way, as the head of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart, addressed this shortcoming in an interview with The Verge today. In the interview, Cathcart said that WhatsApp would love to launch an iPad app at some point in the future. Let us dig deeper into the interview.
WhatsApp For iPad Might Launch Soon
In an interview with The Verge, Cathcart said that the company would love to make an app for iPad users, “people have wanted an iPad app for a long time. We’d love to do it”. While there aren’t too many specifics to mention, the WhatsApp head talked about people wanting them to come up with an iPad app for a long time.

In the interview, Cathcart referred to the underlying multi-device support required for an iPad app and how it was the first step in the process of building a WhatsApp for iPad. WhatsApp has been working on this for a while now.
“We did a lot of work on the technology for supporting multiple devices,” Cathcart said, referencing the rollout of opt-in, multi-device support for WhatsApp last year. “Our web and our desktop apps now have that. If I have multi-device on, I can turn my phone off or lose my network connection and still get messages on my desktop. That would be really important for a tablet app, to be able to use the app even if your phone isn’t on. So the underlying technology is there.”
However, there have been reports of Instagram head Adam Mosseri resisting the idea of ever launching an iPad app for WhatsApp users. However, the recent steps taken by WhatsApp will hopefully bring something iPad users have been longing for.
