NIPL has now partnered with Lyra Network to launch UPI and RuPay cards in France. Do note that NIPL is the international division of NPCI, which was established back in 2020 with the aim to expand the deployment of UPI and RuPay solutions globally.
While commenting on the launch of the UPI service in France, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Considering India doing 5.5 billion UPI transactions per month, this strategic partnership will definitely prove to be a game-changer in the digital payments ecosystem”. He further added that the partnership would be a step towards making UPI available to the world.
Other feats achieved by the NPCI include expansion of UPI-based payments to over 100 million users via WhatsApp, launch of the UPI Lite app to facilitate small-value transactions in offline mode, and introduction of UPI 123Pay to bring UPI to feature phone users.
