Sony is rolling out its second PS5 beta update, with the new Open-Parties feature, voice commands, and UI enhancements. However, the update will be available only to select participants in eligible countries. But do not fret, the final update will be rolled out globally later this year. Those who have been selected to receive the beta updates will be notified of the same via email as soon as it is available for download. It is to be noted that this is not the final version, Sony could tweak some features before it is available globally.
Here are some of the features introduced in the second PS5 update.
Updated Party Chat Options for PS5
The second beta update will let you choose either an open party or a closed party. Open parties, as the name suggests, are open to all. It can be viewed by your friends and they can let themselves in without an invite. Moreover, friends of party members can also join the games. On the other hand, closed parties are invite-only.
The new update adds visual indicators to identify who’s speaking, which can help you report voice chats. Additionally, Share Play can be started right from the voice chat card, without having to share your screen first.
PS5 Updated UI
Voice chats have been renamed to parties. The Game base menu will have three tabs— Friends, Parties and Messages. You will also be able to filter your game collection by genre. For easy access, you will be allowed to keep up to 14 games and apps on your home screen. If you want to stream to an open party, you can start Share Screen from the Create menu.
Accessibility Features
Screen Reader will get support for six additional languages—Russian, Arabic, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, and Korean. You will also be allowed to enable mono audio for headphones, which could aid players with unilateral hearing loss.
PS5 Voice Commands
Sony is also testing voice commands for apps, settings, and to control media playback on the PS5 console. It is only available to beta participants in the US and UK. You can call out “Hey, PlayStation!” and ask your PS5 console to find a game or control playback.
