Sony has finally revealed its plans to release the long overdue Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) feature for the PlayStation 5 gaming consoles. The feature is already available on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles and will be rolled out to the PS5 consoles in the coming months. The VRR feature will let users experience a smoother gameplay with crisper graphics alongside other improvements.
Sony announced the feature via a blog post on Wednesday. Let’s take a closer look at the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) feature and find out what it has in store for PlayStation 5 owners.
PS5 To Receive The VRR Feature Soon
The Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) feature will help to enhance the visual performance for PlayStation 5 games by minimizing or eliminating visual artefacts, such as frame pacing issues and screen tearing. The feature will start rolling out to PS5 consoles in the coming months. According to Sony, if you have an HDMI 2.1-compatible TV or PC monitor, VRR dynamically syncs the refresh rate of the display to the PS5 console’s graphical output.
The feature will let users experience smooth gameplay with instant scene rendering, crisper looking graphics, and reduced input lag. Users will also get the option to apply VRR to PS5 games that don’t support the feature. As a result, they may experience improved video quality for some games. However, the option can be turned off if users see any unexpected visual effects.
Notably, the gameplay results may vary depending on the TV one is using and the game. According to the post, previously released PS5 games can be fully optimized for VRR through a game patch, and future games may include VRR support at launch.
Moreover, the latest PS5 software updates bring in UI enhancements to Game Base and Trophy cards, alongside accessibility features such as mono audio for headphones. PS App users will now be able to create Open and Closed parties through the app itself.
Further, PS Remote Play mobile app users can get a new “dark mode” based on their phone setting with an option to choose from new Screen Reader languages. While all these features are now rolling out, Sony has not yet specified an exact timeline for the VRR feature rollout.
