To capitalise on the smartwatch trend, even conventional watchmakers have started launching smartwatches and fitness bands. A few months ago, we reviewed the Titan Smart and saw good potential. The company has now followed up with a more premium model called Titan Smart Pro.
It brings a more premium design, a much better display, and more health and fitness tracking features. We’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and here’s what we’ve learned.
Design

It looks attractive, too, at least the blue colour variant we received for the review. Unlike some smartwatches, Titan’s smartwatch is not thick, adding to the overall comfort.
While the watch straps that come bundled with the Titan Smart Pro are comfortable and easy to wear all day long, you can replace them with those that fit your taste.
There are two buttons on the watch’s right side, and they’re easy to press. They feel tactile and responsive. At the rear, there are pogo pins for charging and a heart rate sensor for tracking your health. Like all other smartwatches, the Titan Smart Pro is IP67 rated, which means that you can take it inside water for swimming.
The charger attaches to the pogo pins magnetically, and the watch charges from 0-100% within an hour. That’s faster than the Apple Watch Series 7, which takes more than an hour and a half for a full charge.
Display
The 1.19-inch OLED display on the Titan Smart Pro is a massive upgrade from the Titan Smart’s LCD display. It’s bright, sharp, and has an excellent contrast ratio. It makes watch faces look attractive. Even under direct, harsh sunlight, reading the content on the display was never a problem.
The screen has thick bezels, though, and the company has neatly tried to hide it using all-black background across the UI. You’ll notice it when you use watch faces with bright-coloured backgrounds or scroll through the app list. Competing devices have relatively thinner bezels, and the Titan Smart Pro feels below par in that aspect.
The Titan Smart Pro was inconsistent with Lift To Wake sensitivity. Sometimes the screen wakes up instantly, but other times, it takes a second or two to wake up when the wrist is lifted. It might not feel like a lot, but even a second of delay feels irritating in real life.
Performance
The essential aspects of a smartwatch are how well it tracks your health and fitness and how it syncs with a smartphone. The first aspect of the Titan Smart Pro is almost flawless. It has all the sensors one would expect from a smartwatch and then some more. It features an accelerometer, altimeter, compass, GPS, gyro, and even a temperature sensor.
Its accuracy for step tracking and other everyday workouts is pretty accurate. I tested it in comparison with the Apple Watch Series 7 for things like indoor jogging, indoor running, elliptical, outdoor walking, and outdoor running.
The smartwatch took a minute to get an accurate location via built-in GPS. Its location tracking was decent but not as good as some premium watches. The watch can use the altimeter to record accurate data for things like hiking, but we didn’t test it as it’s not something we do in our daily lives.
There are fourteen different workout modes that you can use to track your physical activity. Every once in a while, the watch also nudges you to get up from your seat and take a walk for a few seconds. You can customise this feature. You can also get alerts for low or high heart rates.
The temperature sensor, which is missing even on high-end smartwatches from Apple and Samsung, helps the Titan Smart Pro keep track of your skin temperature. This helps in knowing the body state more accurately. It can also alert if the skin temperature is high, but that might not necessarily mean one has a fever as various environmental conditions can have varied effects on the skin temperature.
Sleep tracking was pretty accurate in our testing. In fact, it was more accurate than the Apple Watch Series 7 that we compared it against. Unfortunately, we couldn’t test whether the smartwatch can track mid-day naps.
All the health and fitness data is stored on the Titan Smart Pro app installed on the paired smartphone. If you delete the app, all the data will be lost. The company hasn’t implemented any feature that lets you synchronise user data with Apple Health or Google Fit. Titan needs to make sure that it offers this feature in its future smartwatches.
The watch lacks a loudspeaker, which means you can only accept or reject incoming calls, but you will have to actually use the smartphone to talk to the person on the other side. You can’t take the call directly on the smartwatch. It also lacks Wi-Fi, so on-the-go firmware update isn’t possible.
Software & App Experience
The Titan Smart Pro can pair with an Android smartphone or an iPhone via the Titan Smart Pro app. The pairing process can be a bit cumbersome as the watch’s display shows the QR code for pairing at max screen brightness, and the QR code is quite small. This makes it hard for the phone’s camera to read the QR code using the app. One might have to adjust the distance between the phone and the watch a few times before the pairing process starts.
During the setup process, the app asks for a few details about the user’s body, such as age, height, weight, and gender. Once the setup is complete, you can set your fitness targets such as daily steps, calories, distance, duration, and sedentary reminders.
Coming to the “smartwatch” part of the device, the Titan Smart Pro app lets you choose when you want to be notified with app notifications from the paired smartphone. You can choose which app notifications are allowed and which aren’t. Apart from health and fitness-related sections, the watch has apps for weather, music, camera, reminders, stopwatch, timer, compass, and barometer. You can’t set the alarm directly from the watch, though, as you’ll have to rely on the smartphone app. You can’t install third-party apps on the watch.
Operating the smartwatch is quite easy. Swipe up from the bottom to show the control centre. Swipe down from the top to show notifications. Swipe to the right or left to switch between widgets. When you are inside any app or menu, swiping to the right takes you to the previous screen. The scrolling feels stuttery, which could either mean a weak processor or a 30Hz display.
When notifications arrive, you can just tap on them to view them or swipe them away to clear them from the screen. However, you can’t do any action with the arrived notification. Unlike the Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch, or even some smartwatches from Amazfit, Fitbit, and Xiaomi, you can’t reply to messages. You can’t even clear notifications listed in the notifications area.
There are dozens of watch faces to choose from, but they are not customisable. You can’t download watch faces made by third parties. Yes, the app allows you to use your own photos as watch face backgrounds, but you can’t customise the widgets on a watch face. Competing smartwatches offer third-party watch faces and the ability to customise them further.
This is one area where Titan needs to improve a lot. Software is clearly not the company’s forte, and in that case, it should ditch its own software and switch to Google and Samsung’s Wear OS platform for better integration with the smartphone, access to third-party apps, and customisable watch faces.
Battery Life
One of the most impressive aspects of the Titan Smart Pro is its battery life. On a single charge, it lasts anywhere between 1 and 2 weeks. Even with the always-on display mode turned on, the watch lasts a week, which is impressive. It even charges via its magnetic charger extremely fast. Battery life was never a concern while we were testing the smartwatch.
Conclusion
The Titan Smart Pro does what it promises. It can track various facets of your fitness and health. It has a good screen, comfortable design, good fitness tracking accuracy, built-in GPS, and long battery life. However, the watch falls short on the actual smartwatch experience, which includes how you can interact with notifications, how your data is synced, and how you can customise it to your own preference.
At a similar price, you can also consider the Amazfit GTS 3, which has much better software, access to Alexa smart assistant, and better watch faces. It runs the Zepp OS with better apps, better integration with the paired smartphone, and better integration with your smartphone.
