Following quite an aggressive backlash from customers, Uber India is about to roll out an update that could potentially prevent users from getting cancelled on by their drivers by allowing the driver to see the drop location beforehand. The company had been testing this feature in select cities since May and is now ready to roll out this functionality country-wide.
Currently, cab drivers frequently cancel the trips after asking where the passengers should be dropped off. Low incentive is one of the reasons why this occurs. Uber India has also upped driver payouts by 15 percent as a result. The new feature that Uber has implemented will allow drivers to accept or deny the trip request depending on the drop location that will be displayed to them when they are close to the user’s location. Additionally, drivers may now detect whether a consumer will pay with cash or online. From this point forward, drivers will also receive a better compensation if they have to go far to pick up a customer.

“To enhance transparency and remove frustration for riders and drivers, drivers on the Uber platform across India will now be able to see the trip destination before they decide to accept the ride. Encouraged by the reduction in the number of trip cancellations after the pilot launch in May 2022, Uber has decided to do away with the trip acceptance threshold and rolled out the unconditional feature to all cities. Uber will continue monitoring feedback from drivers and riders and make changes if required,” Uber said in a statement.
