Xbox Had Their Best Sales In 11 Years This March

With the chip scarcity and the sudden surge in demand, if you’ve tried to buy a gaming console in 2022, you know they’re hard to come by. The Sony PlayStation 5 is a product that is frequently out of stock. While the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series S are widely available, the more powerful Xbox X is difficult to obtain.

According to NPD data collated by video game researcher Mat Piscatella and released this week, industry hardware sales were $515 million in March (down 24 percent from 2021) and $1.2 billion in Q1 (down 15 percent from 2021). Despite a drop in sales compared to the previous year, Xbox achieved its highest sales month in March, surpassing an 11-year record for the brand. This data largely focuses on the US market, which is one of the most important for all major gaming console manufacturers.

“Xbox Series X/S was the best-selling hardware platform of both March 2022 and the first quarter in dollars, while Switch led both time periods in unit sales,” NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said. Microsoft’s consoles led hardware sales in March 2022 and for the entire first quarter in the United States. In addition, the company was able to sell VIP passes for its gaming services as well as other packaged services. Elden Ring was the best-selling game in March, followed by Gran Turismo 7, and these two titles have dominated the rankings for the past two months.
