Qualcomm had recently announced its next-generation flagship smartphone chipset, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Soon after the announcement, multiple OEMs, including iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, and Realme had confirmed that their next flagship smartphones will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Now, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has also announced that its next premium smartphone—Xiaomi 12—will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun took to Twitter to announce that the Xiaomi 12 will be the first smartphone in the world to come powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Although Lei Jun revealed the phone’s name and processor, he did not share the Xiaomi 12’s launch date. Rumours are rife that the device will go official in China on December 12, 2021.
Xiaomi 12 Confirmed To Launch With Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Processor
Motorola had announced that its next flagship smartphone—Moto Edge X30 (Moto Edge 30 Ultra)—will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The Lenovo-owned smartphone has also revealed that it will launch the Moto Edge X30 in China on December 9, 2021. It will be interesting to see which OEMs officially announce their flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones, considering that Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 12 will be the first device to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
In a piece of related news, Realme has also revealed that its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Realme GT 2 Pro, will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The company also has confirmed that the smartphone will launch in December 2021.

The Xiaomi 12 is tipped to feature an AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. The device might have 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. We also expect the device to boot Android 12 out of the box with MIUI 13. The smartphone might offer 100W fast wired charging and 33W fast wireless charging. The other features of the phone could include an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a bigger zoom camera.
