Alongside the release of iOS 15.5, iPadOS 15.5, tvOS 15.5, and macOS Monterey 12.4, Apple has also rolled out watchOS 8.6 update to all users. watchOS 8 operating system was launched back in September 2021, and the brand has finally released the fifth major update to the OS. The watchOS 8.6 update brings new features, improvements, and bugs fixes, including support for ECG and other health features for Apple Watch users in Mexico.
Users with compatible Apple Watches can download the watchOS 8.6 for free via the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by heading to General > Software Update. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it needs to be placed on a charger, and has to be in range of the iPhone.
Apple watchOS 8.6 New Features List
The latest watchOS 8.6 update comes two months after the launch of watchOS 8.5 that brought various features to the Apple wearables, including new emojis, Apple TV purchase authorization, and more. The latest watchOS 8.6 update offers new features including:
- Support for the ECG app on Apple Watch Series 4 or later in Mexico
- Support for irregular heart rhythm notifications in Mexico

The ECG app allows users to take an electrocardiogram, measuring the electrical pulses of your heart. It will also send notifications for irregular rhythm. This feature checks whether your heart rate remains above or below the recommended rate if you have been inactive for 10 minutes.
Both ECG and irregular rhythm notifications were already available in multiple countries, including the United States, UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, and Japan. With the latest watchOS update, these features are coming to Mexico as well.
It is to be noted that the ECG app and irregular heart rhythm notifications require an Apple Watch Series 4 or later.
