Video game publisher Bethesda has announced its plans to shut down its PC game launcher later this year. The company assures that players will be able to move their games, DLC, virtual currency, in-game items, friend lists, and wallet balances back to their Steam accounts following the shutdown. However, details about the transfer process remain unknown for now. More details could emerge some time in the future.

The game maker claims that nearly all saved progress will be transferable. But some users beg to differ, as some claim that file saves from the Bethesda launcher for Wolfenstein: Youngblood does not work on Steam. The company has clarified that Bethesda.net accounts won’t be shut down and that players will be able to use them in future titles as well.
Fallout 76 players should note that from April 1, their Fallout 1st membership won’t be renewed automatically. Instead, they will need to renew their membership via Steam.
This announcement from Bethesda comes at a time when console sales and prices are skyrocketing due to the ongoing chip shortage. This move also aims to streamline the players’ gaming experience as Microsoft, Bethesda’s parent company, already sells Xbox games through Steam, and many of Bethesda’s games are already included in the Game Pass. Now, players will be able to enjoy all their favourite titles under one roof, thereby eliminating the need for switching between launchers.
