In a major move, the government of India banned 54 Chinese apps yesterday, including Garena Free Fire. As a result, the app is not available for download on any Indian app store, but the Samsung Galaxy Store continues to host the app. Hence, gamers using Samsung devices will still be able to download the Garena Free Fire game.

While it is obvious for the banned apps to cease existing on the Indian app stores, including The Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store, the Samsung Galaxy Store continues to host Garena Free Fire, which means that the app is still available for download for Samsung device owners.
However, there is no clarity on whether the app will stay for long on the Samsung Galaxy Store and whether it will receive updates as usual. The best guess is that it won’t stay up for long. Meanwhile, those who already have the Free Fire installed on their Android devices or iPhones, can still play the game without using a VPN. But, Garena is most likely to shut the servers, considering the ongoing ban.

While there is no information about the relaunch of the game in the future with a rechristened avatar, it is expected to make a comeback, just like Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). This is not the first time the Indian government has imposed a ban on Chinese apps. Similar action was taken back in 2020, which resulted in the ban of PUBG Mobile in the country. However, the game resurfaced as BGMI by Krafton.
