This will improve the power efficiency of the devices. The Always-on feature for iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models will include support for iOS 16‘s new Lock screen widgets.
iPhone 14 Pro To Feature Always-On Display With iOS 16’s New Lock Screen Widgets
In the latest edition of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman speculated that the iPhone 14 Pro could be able to show widgets displaying weather, calendars, stocks, activities, and other data while the screen remains at a low brightness and frame rate. This will be similar to how the Apple Watch functions. Furthermore, he adds that users will also get a setting to enable or disable the Always-on display on iPhone 14 Pro models. This will keep sensitive data from appearing on the lock screen for all to see.

As mentioned by Gurman, the iPhone 14 Pro’s Always-on display will help preserve battery life when combined with lower brightness and a low refresh rate. According to display industry analyst Ross Young, the iPhone 14 Pro models will likely feature displays with refresh rates that can drop to as low as 1Hz to ensure power efficiency.
While the Always-on display feature is expected to be rolled out to only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models, there are chances that the feature might be made available to standard iPhone models in the future.
