If you don’t mind watching ads during the streaming of your favourite show, Netflix has good news for you. The streaming giant has revealed its plans to offer cheaper ad-supported subscription tiers during the company’s most recent earnings call. According to co-CEO Reed Hastings, Netflix is currently working on the plans and will most likely launch the ad-supported subscriptions for cheaper rates over the next year or two.

Netflix To Offer Ad-Supported Subscriptions At Cheaper Rates

Hastings has revealed that Netflix is planning to offer cheaper ad-supported subscriptions in the coming years. According to the Netflix co-CEO, the new subscription offers are targeted towards consumers who don’t mind watching ads so that they can pay less to binge on their favourite shows.

He further clarified that the ad-supported memberships will be added as tiers and members who don’t mind paying full subscription fees don’t have to be subjected to advertisements. He also assured that Netflix will merely be a publisher and it will not track user data to match ads like some of its competitors do.

It is pretty clear that it is working for Hulu, Disney is doing it, HBO did it. We don’t have any doubt that it works.

Notably, Netflix has lost around 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022. The new offers could help the company expand their existing audience base. Seemingly, 222 million households are paying for Netflix, but over 100 million more are sharing those accounts. The company recently announced its plans to put the brakes on password sharing between those who don’t live in the same household.
