The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 uses Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing process. On the CPU front, the chipset has 1x ARM Cortex-A710 CPU core clocked at 2.4GHz, 3x ARM Cortex-A710 CPU cores clocked at 2.36GHz, and 4x ARM Cortex-A510 CPU cores clocked at 1.8GHz. These are entirely new CPU cores compared to the Snapdragon 778G. However, the company hasn’t revealed how fast is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 in the CPU department compared to its predecessor.
The new chipset uses Adreno 662 GPU. According to the brand, it has 20% faster rendering compared to the Snapdragon 778G. The GPU supports Full HD+ displays up to 144Hz and QHD+ displays up to 60Hz. The GPU has Adreno Frame Motion, which “doubles framerates to upscale content while maintaining the same power consumption.” There’s also Qualcomm Game Quick Touch, which, the brand claims reduces touchscreen latency.
For cellular connectivity, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 uses Snapdragon X62 5G modem. It supports mmWave and sub-6 GHz 5G bands and is capable of delivering download speeds of up to 4.4Gbps.
The FastConnect 6900 System offers Wi-Fi 6E with peak speeds of up to 3.6Gbps, and Bluetooth v5.3 with LE Audio, aptX, aptX Lossless, and aptX Adaptive. There’s also GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, NavIC, and Dual-Frequency GNSS (L1/L5). As for the memory, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory up to 3,200MHz.
The imaging is handled by the Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP (14-bit), which supports cameras up to 200MP. It can also record 4K HDR videos at 30 frames per second. There is, however, no information on whether the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 supports 4K videos recording at 60 frames per second.
HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision video decoding and encoding are supported as well. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 supports biometric authentication (face, fingerprint, iris, and voice) and the USB 3.1 Type-C port.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Launch Date
The first set of phones with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor is expected to launch a few weeks from now. According to many reports, the OPPO Reno8 Pro will be the first smartphone with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset when it launches on May 23.
