Just ahead of the Galaxy S22 series of smartphones launch scheduled for February 9, 2022, Samsung has shared some interesting bits about its highly-anticipated products. As with all the flagship smartphones, these too will boast of glass and metal premium builds. But, we will see the Korean giant experimenting with recyclable materials for the Galaxy S22 series, mostly for its internals.
Samsung states that the new material is developed by recycling discarded fishing nets.

The use of this material marks another step in our Galaxy for the Planet journey that aims to minimize our environmental footprint and help foster more sustainable lifestyles for the Galaxy community. These discarded fishing nets are disrupting the delicate balance of our environment at an alarming rate. Collecting and repurposing these nets are vital first steps in keeping our oceans clean as well as preserving the planet and our collective future.
Fishing nets are made from man-made fibres such as Nylon, which suggests that Samsung could be using recycled plastic for certain parts of the handsets like the chassis, back panels, and more. However, the company hasn’t revealed the amount of new materials to be used in the Galaxy S22 handsets. Expect the percentage of this material to be high in the vanilla Galaxy S22.
Following Apple, Samsung too removed chargers from its Galaxy S21 lineup in an attempt to make its products sustainable. Now, the company’s latest approach is touted to save the ocean from polluting fishing nets. Acer, too, launched the Aspire Vero laptop in India with a chassis, screen bezels, and keycaps made of Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastic. Similarly, Stuffcool recently introduced its Ecolo cables made of 96 percent PCR (Post Consumer Recycled) plastic and four percent polyester in India.
Many such interesting details about the Samsung Galaxy S22 series are expected to be out as we are nearing the launch. Are you happy with Samsung’s sustainable approach? What do you think about Samsung shipping expensive smartphones without a charger? Do let us know in the comments section below.
