Sony has added two new TVs to its Bravia TV lineup in India. The Sony Bravia XR 77A80J and the Sony Bravia KD 85X85J feature 4K resolution with HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision. These TVs are compatible with the HDMI 2.1 standard, capable of delivering 4K resolution at up to 120fps when hooked up to sources such as Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Both new Bravia TVs run the Android TV operating system that has access to thousands of apps, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix, and YouTube.
The biggest difference between these two televisions is the panel type. The XR-77A80J sports a high-end 77-inch OLED screen, while the 85-inch KD 85X85J settles for an inferior LCD technology.
Sony Bravia XR-77A80J Specifications
The Sony Bravia XR-77A80J sports a 77-inch OLED panel with 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels). Since OLED screens are emissive, they can produce their own light and colour. As opposed to limited dimming zones in an LCD, every pixel in an OLED panel can be selectively dimmed or switched off. As a result, OLED screens deliver accurate blacks and excellent contrast ratio.
According to Sony, it has deployed its Cognitive Processor XR engine to further improve the picture quality. The Japanese brand has also thrown in “Triluminos Pro” colour enhancement and “XR Motion Clarity” motion enhancer into the mix.
The TV comes with Acoustic Surface Audio+, which doubles up the screen as a speaker to deliver 10W of audio. The technology involves microscopically vibrating the OLED panel to produce sound. Dual built-in 2.36-inch woofers provide powerful bass for immersive cinematic sound. Additionally, there are two subwoofers to add depth to the audio.
Sony Bravia KD 85X85J Specifications
The Sony Bravia KD 85X85J has an 85-inch LCD panel with Direct LED backlight technology and 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels). Unlike OLED panels, Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) rely on external LED backlights to render an image. Its contrast and ability to render blacks depend on a few hundred dimming zones, which is no match for OLED’s pixel dimming tech that offer more granular control.
The Japanese brand claims that it enhances the picture quality using its Processor X1 and Triluminos Pro technology. Moreover, the company has implemented Motionflow for a higher refresh rate. In the audio department, the KD 85X85J houses two full-range drivers delivering a total output of 20W.
