The company sold 70.5 million Play Station 4 and Play Station 5 titles during the quarter. To compare, 61.4 million games were sold during the same period back in 2021. While digital downloads attributed to 71 percent of games sold, it was still less than last year’s share of 79 percent. Additionally, PlayStation Plus amassed a total of 47.4 million subscribers and 106 million monthly active users.
This year’s fiscal year’s sales sales rose by 3 percent year-on-year to 2 trillion 739.8 billion yen, and operating income increased to 346.1 billion yen. Sony claimed that this could be due to its latest PS5 model.
Sony aims to sell 18 million PlayStation 5 consoles this fiscal year. Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s chief financial officer said, “What I can say now is that we can procure enough components for 18 million units”. However, the company remains cautions and states that it may have to adjust the projected numbers in case of unpredictable situations such as lockdowns in China.
