Sony Rolling Out Android 12 Update For Xperia 1 III And Xperia 5 III

Google released the stable version of the Android 12 back in October 2021. Since the release of stable Android 12, we saw multiple OEMs such as Samsung, OPPO, and Realme releasing the Android 12 update for their smartphones in the form of beta and stable versions. Now, in a recent development, Sony has started rolling out the Android 12 update for two of its smartphones. The Japanese OEM is rolling out the Android 12 update to the Sony Xperia 1 lll and the Xperia 5 lll.

Sony Releases Android 12 Update For Xperia 1 lll, Xperia 5 lll

The Android 12 stable update for the third generation Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 arrives with build number 61.1.A.1.149. The update is now being rolled out by Asian dual-SIM variants of the Xperia 1 III (XQ-BC72) and the Xperia 5 III (XQ-BQ72). The Android 12 update for the aforementioned devices is being seeded out in the Russian market. Both the Xperia 1 lll and the Xperia 5 lll will also receive the December 2021 security patch with the latest build.

The detailed changelog of Sony’s Android 12 update is not available yet, but the new update should include all the Android 12 goodies. Sony has detailed a convenient guide on its website which includes information as to what users can expect from Sony in the Android 12 update. The Android 12 update for the third generation Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 includes Mic/Camera Indicator, approximate location access, scrolling screenshot feature,  one-handed mode, and ability to share Wi-Fi networks using the Nearby Share feature.

The Android 12 update for both the Xperia 1 lll and the Xperia 5 lll arrives in the form of OTA. You can head over to Settings >> Software Update section to check if you have received the Android 12 update. Although most of the smartphone OEMs have detailed their Android 12 release plan, Sony is yet to confirm the Android 12 update for its smartphones. The company is yet to detail a proper roadmap and a global Android 12 rollout plan for its devices. Now that both the Xperia 1 lll and the Xperia 5 lll are getting the Android 12 update, we can expect Sony to confirm the Android 12 release date for other devices.
