After introducing six new features for voice messages last month, WhatsApp is now reportedly working on a separate “Community” tab. The new tab is set to replace the current camera shortcut which is located on the left-hand side of the conversation tab.
Do note that this feature is still under development, so it isn’t available to beta testers. However, WABetaInfo was able to get their hands on a preview. The report states that the new function will be rolling out to both Android and iOS devices. The camera shortcut will be replaced by the Community tab when it will be released to all. There’s no word whether the camera will be moved to a different section in the app.

The Community section will consolidate all the groups that you’re a part of under one tab. All the communities that you have created or get added to will appear in this new section. Moreover, this feature could also grant you access to special admin tools to help manage your groups. As seen in the screenshot, you will also be able to add a new group by simply selecting the New community option.
It’s unclear when WhatsApp will release this feature. Moreover, the report doesn’t explain how communities differs from groups. Perhaps a community is simply a collection of related groups which is designed to help you manage them better. We can expect more details when the messaging platform releases new updates for WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS.
The Meta-owned company has been rolling out various updates for its app. It has been trying to beef up its security by launching a new resource hub called “Safety in India”. Moreover, in a bid to curb misinformation, the firm has also introduced a limit on the number of messages that can be forwarded on the app at a time.
