After recently rolling out emoji message reactions to select beta users, WhatsApp is all set to test another useful feature to allow users to share media files larger than 100MB. Yes, we all have been there when it comes to receiving those annoying notifications for failed transfer of files larger than 100MB, which is the currently allowed limit. WhatsApp will start rolling out the new feature for beta testing in Argentina.
Let’s take a closer look at the new media file size feature to be tested by WhatsApp and find out how it will work.
WhatsApp Testing A New Feature To Allow Users to Share Media Files Up To 2GB
WhatsApp has been known for providing the best communication experience to its users in terms of voice calls, video calling, and text messaging. To top it all, now it has added the ability for its users to make UPI payments via the app. However, multimedia sharing could sometimes be troublesome, with the app limiting the file size to just 100MB. Reportedly, the messaging app is going to initiate a small beta test to finally let users share media files up to 2GB.

However, the new Media File Size feature will only be available in Argentina, and will be rolled out to select beta testers. Notably, the feature tends to work with WhatsApp beta for Android v2.22.8.5, v2.22.8.6, and v2.22.8.7, as well as for iOS. While it allows beta testers to share media files up to 2G, there is no confirmation if the app is planning on rolling it out to more people in future.
Considering the fact that the feature is to be rolled out as part of a small beta test, there is a possibility for the app to roll back the changes to restore to the previous limit of 100MB. Only time will tell if the media file size feature will make it as an official update to WhatsApp in future. We will update you as soon as we receive more information on the same.
