Motorola Announces Android 12 Roadmap: Features, Release Date, List Of Devices That Will Receive My UX Update

In the last few weeks, we saw multiple OEMs like OPPO, Realme, iQOO, Samsung, and Vivo revealing the Android 12 roadmap, features, and release date for their handsets. In fact, some of these smartphone manufacturers already pushed the stable Android 12 update for their smartphones. The latest smartphone brand to announce the Android 12 update roadmap is the Lenovo-owned Motorola. The company, in a recent development, has published a blog post on its official website, revealing the release date, features, and list of devices that will receive the Android 12-based My UX update.

Motorola Android 12 Update Announced: Features

Material You Design

According to details revealed by Motorola on its official website, the upcoming My UX software version based on Android 12 will bring Google’s Material You design. The Material You design will allow you to personalize the user interface and use customizable system colors. This new design will brings in advanced color extraction algorithms, which will let you personalize the look and feel of the entire phone, including notifications, settings, widgets, and even select apps. The redesigned Material You will also offers dynamic colours, rounded shapes, and large open layouts which, no doubt, will give a premium feel on the smartphones. Apart from the Material You design, the Android 12 update will also allow you to personalize the home screen menu with a long press. With this, you will be able to adjust font style, size, colours, icon shapes, layouts, device sounds, display size, and wallpapers.

Conversation Widget

The Conversation Widget will be also available on the upcoming My UX software with the Android 12 update. The Conversation widget, in short, puts messages with the people that you care about on your home screen, so that you can access missed calls, birthdays, and more at a glance. It also showcases multiple conversations from different people on your home screen, so that you can access the chat right from the home screen.

Accessibility Improvements

The upcoming Android 12-based My UX software version will also offer accessibility improvements which Google has introduced in Android 12. The new update will include an area magnification feature. This new feature allows you to open the new window magnifier which will enable you to zoom in on a part of the screen without having to lose context on the rest of the screen content. Apart from this, features such as Extra dim, Bold text, and Grayscale will be rolled out with the new update. The Extra dim feature will dim the display for night-time scrolling or situations when even the lowest brightness setting is too bright.

Mic and Camera Indicators and Toggles

The Android 12 update for Motorola devices will also bring in a microphone and camera indicator toggle which will be located at the phone’s status bar. This handy feature will let you know which apps are accessing the mic and cameras. Additionally, if the user doesn’t want any apps to access the microphone or camera, you can completely disable those sensors using two new toggles in quick settings.

Approximate Location Permissions And Privacy Dashboard

Some apps on our smartphones need precise location information for tasks like turn-by-turn navigation, while others require the approximate location to be of any use. With Android 12, Google lets you choose between the precise location and an approximate location. The approximate location feature will make its debut on the upcoming My UX software version. Apart from this, the privacy dashboard will be rolled out to Motorola devices with the Android 12 update. The privacy dashboard displays a clear and comprehensive view of when the apps access the location, camera, or mic over the past 24 hours. If you don’t want to allow a certain app to access the camera or mic, you will be able to manage these permissions right from the dashboard.

Motorola Android 12 Update Release Date

Motorola has announced that it will start rolling out the Android 12 update for its smartphone from February 2022. The company, as of now, hasn’t explicitly detailed the Android 12 update release date nor has it has confirmed which device will receive the Android 12 update first.
