If you own a Xiaomi smartphone and want to reset it, there are plenty of ways with which you can reset a Xiaomi device. There are numerous reasons for someone wanting to reset their device. For instance, if your Xiaomi smartphone slowed down over time, resetting it could give it a new life. If you are selling your Xiaomi smartphone, resetting it will protect your data from falling into others’ hands.

In this article, we will guide you with the safest and the easiest ways to reset your Xiaomi smartphone. Following the steps carefully will make the resetting process a cakewalk for you.

Ways To Reset Xiaomi Smartphone

  1. Soft Reset
  2. Factory Reset When The Phone Is Locked
  3. Factory Reset Using The Phone’s Settings Menu
  4. Factory Reset Using ADB Tools

Things To Keep In Mind Before Resetting Your Xiaomi Smartphone

  1. If your Xiaomi phone contains sensitive and important data (app or website login credentials, photos, videos, documents, and more), kindly take a backup before resetting your device.
  2. Don’t interrupt the reset process, as it might break your Xiaomi smartphone.
  3. Charge your Xiaomi smartphone fully before resetting it, as a factory reset consumes significant battery.

1. How To Soft Reset Xiaomi Phone

A soft reset is a fairly simple resetting process, which merely restarts all the processes running on your smartphone. If your Xiaomi smartphone is running slow or has frozen while an app or an instance was running, there are chances that the problem can easily be fixed with a soft reset, and you need not opt for a more aggressive factory reset approach.

Similarly, common issues like network connectivity problems, a sensor malfunction, and more can easily be fixed with the help of a soft reset. In order to soft reset your Xiaomi smartphone, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Locate the power button of your Xiaomi smartphone
    2. Press and hold the power button until the power menu starts showing up on the screen
    3. Tap Restart
    4. Wait for the restart process to finish
    5. Voila

It, hence, is quite evident that soft resetting your Xiaomi smartphone is a fairly easy process and should ideally solve common problems without much effort. If, however, your Xiaomi smartphone fails to respond when you press and hold the power button, you should hold the button for around 10 seconds and the restart process will initiate.

    2. How To Factory Reset Xiaomi Phone When It Is Locked

If you have forgotten the lock screen password of your Xiaomi smartphone, and you cannot access the device by any means, a factory reset can help you reset your device, albeit at the cost of you losing your device data. if you are not worried about the data on your Xiaomi smartphone and want to delete it all anyway, you can factory reset your device using its recovery mode. In order to do so, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Locate the power button of your Xiaomi smartphone.
    2. Press and hold the power button until the power menu starts showing up on the screen.
    3. Tap the Power off option.
    4. Once the Xiaomi smartphone is switched off, keep press and hold the power button and the volume up button simultaneously.
    5. Once the Xiaomi/Mi/POCO logo appears, and you receive haptic (vibrational) feedback, release the power button while still holding the volume up button.
    6. After a brief period, the Recovery Mode screen will start showing on your Xiaomi device.
    7. Scroll down to locate the Wipe Data option using the volume buttons.
    8. Press the power button to select Wipe Data.
    9. Press the power button once more to select Wipe All Data.
    10. Click the Confirm option.
    11. Once the process is finished, a success prompt will pop up on your Xiaomi device’s screen.
    12. Click the Back to Main Menu option.
    13. Reboot, and voila! You have successfully reset your Xiaomi smartphone.

    3. How To Factory Reset Xiaomi Phone Via Settings Menu

While factory resetting your Xiaomi smartphone using its recovery menu is one of the fastest methods out there, it could turn out to be a bit daunting and tedious to some. Additionally, the device’s data gets wiped if you use the recovery menu reset method.

If you can access your Xiaomi smartphone and want to take a backup of your device before resetting it, resetting your device using its phone’s settings menu is the safest choice for you. To reset your Xiaomi phone from its settings menu, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Open the Settings menu of your Xiaomi smartphone
    2. Open the About Phone or Additional Settings menu and find the Factory Reset option
    3. Click the Erase all data (factory reset) option found at the very bottom of the device’s display
    4. Input your password/PIN/pattern to proceed further
    5. If you want to take a backup of your Xiaomi smartphone before resetting it, you can do so by tapping the Back up button
    6. If you don’t want to take a backup, press Factory Reset
    7. Now, tap Next after waiting for 10 seconds
    8. After another 10 seconds, tap OK
    9. Wait for a few minutes until your Xiaomi phone resets
    10. Your Xiaomi smartphone will now automatically turn on, and you can set it up from scratch the way you did when you first bought it

    4. Factory Reset Using ADB Tools

Much like the recovery mode reset method, this method also comes in handy if you have forgotten the lock screen password and are unable to access the device. That said, unlike the first three methods, the ADB factory reset method requires a desktop computer or a laptop alongside your Xiaomi smartphone. To reset your Xiaomi phones using ADB tools, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Power off your Xiaomi phone.
    2. Press and hold the power button and the volume down button until the Fastboot screen pops up.
    3. Connect your Xiaomi smartphone to the computer using a compatible USB cable.
    4. Download ADB Fastboot Tools on your computer.
    5. Open the ADB Fastboot Tool.
    6. Right-click to open Command Window Here.
    7. Type Fastboot_W in the command window and press enter.
    8. Wait for a few seconds and then type Fastboot Reboot and hit enter.

Your Xiaomi smartphone will now be reset successfully, and you can start fresh with your device easily.
