Apple is all set to release the watchOS 9.1 software update to the public on October 24, 2022. The latest upgrade to the Apple Watch operating system will be accompanied by other releases including iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16.1, tvOS 16.1, and macOS Ventura. In the meantime, the iPhone maker has rolled out the watchOS 9.1 RC (Release Candidate) for developers and beta users. The update will finally enable users to download Apple Music over Wi-Fi or cellular without charging their Apple Watches.

The latest watchOS 9.1 update will change that for good. It allows users to download music on their Apple wearables even if the charger is not plugged in. The functionality works when the Apple Watch is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or cellular.

Additionally, watchOS 9.1 brings along a host of new productive features for Apple Watch owners. For instance, users will get to experience an improved battery life during certain workouts using the Apple Watch SE 2, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple Watch Ultra by reducing the frequency of heart rate and GPS readings. The latest update to the Apple Watch operating system also introduces support for Matter, the new standard for smart home accessories.
According to the update release notes, Apple watchOS 9.1 offers various bug fixes and security improvements, along with the following features:
- Battery life extended during Outdoor Walking, Running, and Hiking Workouts with the ability to reduce the frequency of heart rate and GPS readings on Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) and Apple Watch Ultra.
- Music can download while the Apple Watch is off the charger using Wi-Fi or cellular.
- Matter, the new smart home connectivity standard, is supported enabling a wide variety of smart home accessories to work together across the ecosystem.
The watchOS 9.1 update will be released alongside the iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16.1, tvOS 16.1, and macOS Ventura on October 24, 2022.
