Apple HomePod 16.1 Software Update Brings Support For Matter Smart Home Standard

Apple has released a new software update for the HomePod and the HomePod mini. The latest HomePod software version 16.1 is accompanied by the release of iOS 16.1, watchOS 9.1, tvOS 16.1, iPadOS 16.1, and macOS Ventura. The HomePod 16.1 software introduces support for the Matter smart home standard, alongside a handful of performance and stability improvements to the Apple devices. How To Install The Latest HomePod 16.1 Update

Apple states in its release notes, “Software version 16.1 adds support for Matter, the new smart home connectivity standard that enables a wide variety of smart home accessories to work together across ecosystems. This update also includes performance and stability improvements.”

HomePod‌‌‌‌‌‌ software is installed automatically on the ‌‌‌‌‌‌HomePod‌‌ unless the feature is disabled‌‌‌‌. To manually update the HomePod or HomePod mini, you can follow these steps:

• Open up the Home app.
• Tap on the home icon in the upper left corner of the display.
• If you have only one home set up, this will take you directly to settings, so skip directly to Step 5. In case you have multiple homes, tap “Home Settings” on the sheet that pops up.
• Select your desired home.
• Scroll down to “Software Update.”
• Pull down from the top of the iPhone or iPad screen to check for an update.

Once you’ve selected “Software Update,” you’ll be able to see the current version of the HomePod software that you have installed. If there is an available update, you’ll just need to tap the “Install” button to update your HomePod. You can also toggle off automatic updates if you want. If you have multiple HomePods in your home, each one will be updated simultaneously with this software update.
